Comfort Today September Look Back
Comfort Today took our last ice cream outing of the summer. We had hoped that Labor Day would bring us some cooler weather, but instead it brought us thunderstorms. Our group can be very adjustable when there is ice cream involved. The only problem was that it was very humid, and slightly challenging to eat our ice cream without making a mess. A fun time was had by all, and some our members tried some new ice cream flavors (making it extra special).
AT least the weather did not disappoint us for our Tailgate party. It had been raining all day, but it finally cleared enough so that we could fire up the grill for our celebration. Our members enjoyed hamburgers, macaroni and cheese, baked beans, and cherry dream squares with vanilla ice cream for dessert. There’s nothing to wet your appetite like the smell of grilled burgers.
One of our members is always requesting chocolate milkshakes, so when National Chocolate Milkshake Day came around, we knew we had to celebrate it. We found a recipe for extra chocolaty chocolate milkshakes, which was a huge hit.
We were really excited that the Zion-Pre K returned for their monthly visit. Our theme was to learn about frogs. Our members always look forward to interacting with our preschool friends.
We ended the month with a Spelling Bee competition. Our members really enjoy our spelling bees, so we thought we would try a friendly competition against Tanglewood. We really enjoy getting together with Tanglewood. We are looking forward to continuing the croquet club next summer.
We were excited to take a lunch outing to the Mayville Diner. We had heard that they had good food, and great desserts, so we wanted to try it out for ourselves. We certainly were not disappointed, and will go back again.
Comfort Today has been growing herbs all summer long, and have been waiting to use them in a homemade spaghetti sauce recipe given to us by one of our members. We finally had our idea come to fruition as we enjoyed a spaghetti dinner complete with garlic bread and cheesecake for dessert.
Although September had a lot of activities involving food, we are looking forward to the Fall, and walking at the mall, and being involved in a new Wellness Center Competition to encourage our members to be a fit, and healthy as we can.
