Frequently Asked Questions

Clear Answers for You and Your Family’s Peace of Mind

Whether you are exploring options for yourself or someone you love, choosing senior care comes with important questions.

At Tanglewood Group, part of the Culture Care Senior Living family, our mission is simple:

Care Is Our Culture.

That means we approach every conversation with empathy, honesty, and respect — across independent living, assisted living, memory care, adult day services, respite care, and home care.

Below are the most common questions we hear — thoughtfully answered.

Helping You Decide & Transitioning into Care

When is it time to consider Assisted Living or Memory Care?

There is rarely one single moment. More often, it’s a pattern:

• Missed medications
• Increased forgetfulness
• Falls or safety concerns
• Isolation or loneliness
• Difficulty with daily activities

Assisted living provides support with daily tasks while encouraging independence.
Memory care offers additional structure and specialized dementia support in a secure environment.

If daily life feels harder or less safe than it once did, it may be time to explore options. The right level of care often restores quality of life — for both the individual and the family.

Who is eligible for admission?

Eligibility is based on our ability to safely meet the needs of you or your loved one.

Many residents:

• Use walkers or canes
• Require oxygen
• Manage insulin-dependent diabetes
• Experience incontinence
• Need assistance with personal care or medication
• Live with Alzheimer’s disease or other memory impairments

Through assisted living and memory care services licensed in New York State, we support a wide range of needs while maintaining dignity and comfort.

A simple assessment helps determine eligibility.

Are Pennsylvania residents eligible for Assisted Living or Memory Care?

Yes.

Many of our residents come from Pennsylvania. Our communities in Jamestown and Frewsburg, NY are located just minutes from the Pennsylvania border.

Eligibility is based on care needs — not residency. We are happy to explain how insurance, long-term care coverage, or other benefits may apply across state lines.

How does the admissions process work?

We make the process as simple and supportive as possible.

It begins with a conversation. We can meet at one of our communities, in your home, at a hospital, or in another care setting.

The process includes:

• A personal interview and assessment
• A brief application
• A medical form completed by a physician

Once everything is complete and space is available, we coordinate admission in a way that feels organized and respectful.

You are never navigating this alone.

How much does Assisted Living or Memory Care cost?

Costs vary depending on level of care and services needed.

Eligibility for financial support depends on individual circumstances.

For those who qualify, services may be covered through:

• New York State’s Assisted Living Program (ALP)
• Long-term care insurance
• Veterans Administration (VA) Pension benefits
• Private pay options

We review cost and eligibility carefully and transparently.

Financial conversations are handled with patience and clarity — never pressure.

How do you support the emotional transition?

Moving — or beginning care — is emotional.

If you are transitioning yourself, we encourage bringing familiar furniture, photographs, and meaningful belongings.

If you are supporting a loved one, your involvement during the first weeks helps ease adjustment.

Our team takes time to learn routines, preferences, and personality so care feels personal and welcoming.

We don’t just admit residents.
We welcome people.

What if my loved one is resistant to the idea of moving?

Resistance is common and completely understandable.

We encourage involving your loved one early in the decision-making process. Visit together. Focus on the benefits — companionship, safety, relief from daily burdens.

We are happy to provide guidance on how to approach these conversations gently.

Sometimes simply exploring options helps reduce fear.

Daily Life & Community Services

How are physician's services provided?

Residents benefit from coordinated healthcare services within our communities.

We offer on-site physician access, diagnostic testing coordination, lab services, and specialty visits such as podiatry and optometry when needed.

This reduces unnecessary outside trips and provides peace of mind for both residents and families.

Can residents keep medication in their rooms?

For safety, prescription medications are securely stored and administered by trained staff.

With a physician’s written order, certain over-the-counter medications may be kept in rooms.

Medication safety is a core part of our Culture of Care.

Are phones and TV's permitted?

Yes.

Residents are encouraged to personalize their living space. Telephone and television services are welcome, and cable options are available.

Comfort matters.

Is there mail service?

Yes.

Mail is delivered to the community, sorted, and delivered directly to resident rooms. Staff are available to assist with paperwork or administrative needs when necessary.

When are meals served?

Meal times vary slightly by community to best meet resident needs.

Breakfast, lunch, and dinner are chef-prepared and served in welcoming dining environments designed to encourage conversation and connection.

Guests are always welcome with advance notice.

Are guests welcomed for meals?

Absolutely.

Family and friends are encouraged to visit and share meals. We simply ask that guests notify the kitchen in advance.

Care is a partnership — and families are part of our community.

Your Questions Answered:
The Tanglewood Difference

Is there a waiting list?

We do not maintain a formal waiting list.

If rooms are not immediately available, we encourage staying in contact. If your need is urgent, we are happy to explore alternative options within our continuum of care, including respite or home care.

Is Tanglewood Manor a nursing home?

No.

Our assisted living and memory care communities are licensed residential environments that support independence while providing assistance with daily living.

Nursing homes provide a higher level of skilled medical care.

We are happy to help clarify which level of care is appropriate.

What is the difference between Memory Garden and Assisted Living?

Memory Garden provides dedicated memory care for individuals living with Alzheimer’s disease or other dementias.

It offers:

• A secure environment
• Specialized dementia-trained staff
• Structured, routine-based programming
• Calming household-style living

Assisted living supports individuals who need help with daily tasks but do not require specialized dementia care.

Both focus on dignity, engagement, and quality of life.

Can residents in Independent Living or Assisted Living bring pets?

Yes.

In many of our independent and assisted living settings, pets are welcome with approval.

We understand that pets are family.

What is the average staff-to-resident ratio?

Staffing levels vary by time of day and resident needs.

We are committed to maintaining strong staffing levels to ensure personalized attention and timely care. Team members are present 24/7, and many have specialized training in memory care and senior support.
