Memory Care Household’s Look Back on March 2018

“May your day be touched with a little bit of Irish luck, brightened by a song in your heart and warmed with smiles by the people you love.” The Memory Care Households were definitely in luck this month, with the abundance of fun activities, music, events and plenty of yummy treats to follow.

They say March comes in like a lion, which it did, as old man winter sure wasn’t done gracing us with his presence quite yet. We enjoyed watching the falling snow as March began, while at the same time, anxiously awaiting its final departure. We are ending March with slightly warmer temps and some rain, but we’ll take that over snow any day.

With March, comes the celebration of St. Patrick’s Day which was a big hit here in the Memory Care Households. We enjoyed many St. Patty’s Day related events and activities, including a St. Patty social, baking groups which were all themed with the color green, and craft groups which included creating St. Patrick’s day items such as rainbows, pots of gold and shamrocks. In addition to our crafts which added to the decor of the holiday, we created individual shamrocks which stated what we were lucky for to post on our doors. We then joined Tanglewood in an afternoon of armchair travels to Ireland, where we enjoyed Irish soda bread, tea and coffee, as well as a fantastic and humorous movie based off of the beautiful country of Ireland.

Outside of the excitement of the Irish holiday, we also enjoyed our usual array of music events. We welcomed Cody Hiller, The Larson Family, Gabriella Caruso, Davis and Eng and of course our very own Golden Gems to the Tanglewood stage this month. We continued to enjoy music with Dave Johnson, painting with Jill, and our monthly Ladies Tea Parties.

As the end of the month drew near we celebrated Palm Sunday with an Easter Cantata brought to us by the Baptist Church of Ellington. With Easter fast approaching we quickly switched gears from shamrocks to Easter eggs. We made hard boiled Easter eggs colored with food coloring to enjoy first thing Easter morning with our breakfast.

Although we may not have found any gold at the end of the rainbow, we can find a little gold here in our hearts as this Easter celebration commences. We look forward to April with high hopes for warmer weather, sunshine and a peek at Spring. As always we extend our most warm welcome to all of you to come and join us in celebrating the month of April, and see all that we have planned!
