Comfort Today July Look Back
Comfort Today is making every minute count this summer by keeping busy with some new outings and activities. We went to Sprague’s Restaurant in Portville for the first time. The trip did not disappoint. The view was spectacular, and the food was wonderful. It took us a little time to realize that the knocking sound we were hearing during our meal was a fake woodpecker pecking on a tree. We will definitely make a return visit again soon.
Another first time outing for us was volunteering for a Summer Partner Reading Program. Our members enjoyed reading with the children in the beautiful backdrop of St. Luke’s Church. The stained glass windows are a sight to see, and they have a Pillar of Light display (made of over 1,000 mason jars) that is stunning. It is always a privilege for our members to make a difference in the life of a child.
We celebrated the Fourth of July with a picnic lunch in the Louis Ferreri Park. It was a beautiful day, and the sweet ending of strawberry shortcake is always a bonus.
We have added something new to our monthly calendar that really seems to be a hit! We are celebrating Take out Thursday (once a month), and bringing in take out from various restaurants in the area. This month we enjoyed Pizza Hut pizza, and also had a chef salad (provided by dietary) in order to keep things somewhat healthy.
Another first-time lunch outing was an enjoyable scenic drive to Aunt Millie’s in Silver Creek. They are well known for their generous desserts. Their entrée portions were also large. Some of our members ordered lasagna, and the portion was so large that it became the conversation of our table. We brought home desserts to enjoy later, and it was the consensus that we definitely would want to make a return trip.
We ended the month with our yearly Senior Olympics Week. We had daily indoor games, and joined our friends from Tanglewood and Memory Garden in the Louis Ferreri Park for a friendly, competitive game of corn hole. We ended the week with our medal presentations. We are looking forward to more fun times in the month of August.
