Frewsburg Rest Home September Look Back
Can you believe September has already come and gone?! We started out our month with a Labor Day Picnic outside, and ended the month with an End of Summer Picnic! We also made S’mores with our Rest Home family in the side yard (just like we did as kids!). Along with enjoying some ice cream floats on the porch, a visit to the Erie Zoo, dinner at La Cocina and much more!
Some of the REALLY hot days this summer landed us inside with the air conditioning running, what better way to enjoy being inside than great entertainment! We enjoyed the Larson Family, who always put on a great performance and we love that they include us also! Davis & Eng also came to the Rest Home to play for our monthly Birthday Party, they always have something new to play for us! We had the pleasure of taking our Golden Gems to Tanglewood facility to perform for everyone, we love to sing with all of our friends from our sister facility! To round off the end of the month we enjoyed music by Rick Bruening. And of course, we enjoyed some Karaoke singing of our own here at home!
To start Assisted Living Facility Week off right this month we enjoyed a Grandparents Day Social, we always love getting to see our residents get to sit and enjoy a nice visit with family. Following that, Josie, a resident here at the rest home invited some of her friends to attend the Southern Tier Kidney Association Picnic with her, everyone had a great time! They even gave each of us a T-shirt from their recent Benefit walk for the Association. Throughout the week we dressed silly, we designed our own hats, we enjoyed some special treats and won some prizes to celebrate ALF week! It was a fun time for both residents and staff members!
We love to cook in our Bistro with the residents. This month we cooked our entire meal again and enjoyed it at the Bistro dining room table together. The residents really enjoy getting to make some recipes from their book of tricks! We also enjoyed a picnic here in Frewsburg at Erlandson Overlook, it sure is beautiful up there! As we do every month we also enjoyed going to the Myers Memorial Library with folks from the community, it is always nice to get out.
This month out crochet club along with some staff from FRH made baby hats for premature babies in Honduras! They crocheted approximately 50 hats and sewed personalized FRH tags that say our name on one side and “You are loved” on the other side. It is so nice to see our residents helping others in need with their craft!
To bring in the changing season we decided it would be fun to have a few Fall related activities this month! We enjoyed going to the Whittier Apple Farm, Pumpkinville as well as the Busti Apple Festival! We made a fall pumpkin craft decoration and even had a Resident Art Gallery to display everyone’s different talents artistically! I am not sure that going to an Alpaca farm is something to get you in the Fall mood but we sure enjoyed getting to see the Alpacas and learn a few things from the owners!
To complete the month we invited a few folks to the Rest Home to do some Educational presentations to inspire our residents to stay as fit and healthy as possible. We first had Janine Brady here, Janine is a Dietitian from WCA hospital, she did a presentation on Healthy Eating! Our Fitness Center friend, Adam, who is a Personal Trainer did a educational presentation for us also on the importance of exercise! We sure appreciate all we learned from these two this month! Thank you!
The construction in our back yard for our new Memory Care unit is getting close to completion! If you would like to speak with someone about the fast-approaching opening please contact us at 716-569-3095 or email at nmucheck@frewsburgresthome.com.
