Memory Garden March Look Back

March has been a busy, fun filled month for our Memory Garden residents. With theĀ  promise of spring coming soon, we all look forward to leaving winter behind, anticipating warmer weather for more outdoor time.

Early in the month we celebrated Mardi Gras with games, sweet treats and festive music. Our residents had a blast posing for pictures wearing the masks they decorated in wild designs.

St. Patrick’s Day gave us yet another reason to have a party. Brownie sundaes with mint chocolate chip ice cream was served and devoured by all. A competitive game of nerf target shooting was played, taking aim at lucky shamrocks for points. Of course it wouldn’t be a St. Patty’s Day party without some Irish music to set the mood.

We ushered in our first day spring with a Spring Fling! Everyone enjoyed a smorgasbord of various fruits and cheeses, while trying their luck at indoor horse shoes.

While some of our residents celebrated their birthdays, Lucille Miller entertained us with her beautiful piano playing at the birthday party, while we all had cake and ice cream.

Throughout the month, we’ve had numerous entertainers lift our spirits with their talent. We’ve enjoyed the sounds of Saved by Grace, Jeaneen Jaynes, Dave Johnson, Lucille Shurkus, Angelo Aleimo, Rick Bruening, and of course our weekly visits by Don Sandy as well as Spencer Drake.

Our own Golden Gems graced us with a special concert for St. Patrick’s day.

We had a breakfast outing at Friendly’s Restaurant, leaving us with bellies full of pancakes. This week we will be venturing out for lunch at the Bemus Point Inn.

Activities this month included many of our tried and true favorites like bingo, balloon volleyball, bowling, basketball and ladder ball. We also dragged out the big white board and played hangman, Pictionary and solved various springtime puzzles. Some new games were introduced to our residents with great reception. A dice game called Build a Burger went over very well as did the funnel balloon game, where they had fun trying to transfer a balloon to each other’s funnel. “What’s Next?” is another new game we’re trying. The residents will be given a few words to a common phrase, proverb, song or nursery rhyme and they have to say what comes next.

Our ladies enjoyed sipping on their choice of tea flavors and eating mini sandwiches, while donning their fancy tea hats, during our monthly Tea Party.

Rounding out the month was Appetizer Day. As you can guess, we partook in a variety appetizers with beverages and we played a trivia game pertaining to all the different foods we were eating.O

Our residents here at Memory Garden had so much fun this month. We can hardly wait for what’s in store for the month of April!
