Memory Care Households February Look Back
February was a “love”-ly month in the Tanglewood Memory Care Household. We enjoyed celebrating the special holidays, as well as just celebrating every day!
We really concentrated on celebrating Valentine’s Day in the beginning of the month. We spent one Saturday morning reading stories of true love from “Chicken Soup for the Soul.” This led to some sweet and funny stories about our own true loves. We also had fun painting some pink and red heart shaped trees. And we couldn’t let the holiday go by without baking something special- a red velvet cake with cream cheese frosting. Delicious! Later in the month, our baking group also treated everyone to peanut butter cookies and some yummy cupcakes.
We really enjoyed the music from special performers this month. Some of our favorites were Dan Vogan, King’s Express, and Rick Bruening. The Golden Gems treated us to a special Valentine’s concert. Of course, Music with Mary is always a popular activity every Tuesday and Thursday. This month we even tried our hand at a drum circle. Everyone had a blast!
We had another special guest this month from the Prendergast Library. She showed us how to make a bird collage using pages from old books. Who’s ready for Spring?
Many mornings we exercised our brains playing trivia and memory games before lunch. Sometimes it was a spelling bee, a memory card game, or Name 5. We joined the Tanglewood folks for several physical games such as ladder ball, bowling, and indoor lawn darts. This month we also spent some time in the gym. Every Monday and Friday we join Patrick in our Fitness Center. Everyone has a great time riding the bikes!
We finished up the month of February with a fun Mardi Gras party, where we enjoyed jambalaya, King’s Cake, and a Mardi Gras punch!
