Tanglewood Manor March Look Back

March was a time of change and adapting here at Tanglewood. In the changing environment, we kept our spirits high with fun activities.

We began the month with a concert by the Larsen family. As usual, the kids gave a great performance. We also had a visit from Cindy Sue Wolcott who played a fun game of musical bingo with us! As bingo and music are two of our favorite activities, it was fun to join the two together.

Of course we enjoyed playing usual games as well. We enjoy challenging our minds in Boggle, trivia contests, and Name 5. We also enjoy the active games like ladder ball, indoor lawn darts, and indoor horse shoes. We got creative playing ping-pong basketball. We also played our version of the game show classic, $25,000 Pyramid. Everyone who played agreed it was a success and we will try it again next month!

Our bowling league and shuffleboard club got off to a great start this month. We will continue the leagues throughout the spring months, ending in May.

The first half of March was all about St. Patrick’s Day. We had a shamrock scavenger hunt throughout the building. Residents won candy for each shamrock they found. Pat B. found our Golden Shamrock and won a chocolate bunny! We played Minute to Win It-St. Patrick’s edition. Players took turns spooning Lucky Charms into a cup without using their hands, tossing gold coins into a bucket, and popping balloons to assemble the limericks hidden inside. It definitely brought out our silly side!

Our crafts geared toward St. Patrick’s Day as well. We painted shamrocks with our own Jill Dunn. We also made some very creative St. Patrick’s Day wreaths to hang on our doors.

Of course, we wouldn’t let St. Patrick’s Day go by without a Happy Hour celebration. Our dietary supervisor, Travis played bartender, serving up non-alcoholic green beer, mint juleps, and Shirley Temples! We filled up on chips, popcorn, and pretzels and had a blast listening to Irish music. Everyone agreed that the party was just what we needed to brighten up our month!

The highlight of March was the Staff and Resident corn hold tournament! Residents signed up along with their “favorite” staff member to play in the tournament. Two games were going simultaneously the entire time. Each winning team moved on to the next round. Everyone had a great time, although we were all tired the next day!

Our final big event came on the last day of the month. I scream, you scream, we all scream for…an ice cream social! Chocolate, caramel, whipped cream, cherries and sprinkles! We all felt like kids again with the ooey, gooey, sundaes we created!

Although March has brought changes we were not expecting, we have decided to look on the bright side of things. We continue to enjoy our activities, smile and laugh, and enjoy each other’s company. At Tanglewood, we’re all family.
