Tanglewood Manor June Look Back
“And so with the sunshine and the great bursts of leaves growing on the trees, just as things grow in fast movies, I had that familiar conviction that life was beginning over again with the summer” – F. Scott Fitzgerald
Happy summer everyone, it’s finally here! Our resident’s are definitely feeling the refreshing months of summer as we explore our own backyard and all of the great activities that Louis Ferrari Memorial Park has to offer.
We kicked off the month of June with a very fancy tea party held in our Bistro. Fancy hats, and delicious treats baked by our baking group were enjoyed by all as we had a great time chatting and catching up with each other. Our residents also enjoyed delicious dessert made by our baking group as we celebrated the birthdays for the month of June. Strawberry Pretzel Salad was a huge hit and a very refreshing dessert for the warm weather we have been having.
Our fun did not stop with the birthday party, it seemed as though we had a party every week in the month of June which added to the residents excitement for summer! Our 1950’s Sock Hop was definitely a pinnacle event which left us all with the sense of happiness that comes after reminiscing. Root beer floats, waffle fries, poodle skirt wearing diner girls, and the sounds of youth were beaming through the halls of Tanglewood Manor. A photo booth comprised of 1950’s themed props was just the icing on the cake of this marvelous event.
As the month progressed our residents loved trying new activities as well as participating in the activities that have become customary to our life here at Tanglewood. Tai chi, chair dancing aerobics, and the addition of our new yoga balls which make great way for strength training and mobilization are just a few new activities that were introduced this month! Some of the staple activities that take place here at Tanglewood are the bowling and shuffleboard leagues. Our residents enjoy the competition and bragging rights that come with these two enjoyable sports. In addition, Music with Mary, Bell Chimes, and The Golden Gems choral group are also continual activities that really spark the interests of our Tanglewood residents, as well as the spectators who love the musical talents that are displayed.
It was a busy Father’s Day weekend as we hosted the first annual Brews & Bonfire event for Father’s Day. Residents enjoyed some non-alcoholic brews and of course s’mores which aided in our celebration of fatherhood, remembering our loved ones that have passed, and looking forward to the moments where we will once again be reunited with our own children. As we rounded about the weekend, the residents enjoyed “Donuts with Dad” which was a lovely event that included delicious donuts from a local bakery.
As the weeks in June flew by, we also were able to enjoy some great fishing in the park, golf cart rides, and our wonderful walks in the park. Some creative crafts were made such as floral arrangements, tie-dye hats, and patriotic door hangers, and our residents were able to participate in a corn-hole tournament with our employees! Our final events for the month of June included a Golden Gems performance, where we dedicated the concert to songs of our youth, and our Summer Solstice party where we celebrated all things yellow as we look forward to sun shining days and new beginnings in this season.
As we finally can breathe a sigh of relief that things are starting to calm down with this pandemic, we want you all to know that we miss you so dearly! We are unsure when we can have visitors again, but when the time comes, we cannot wait to celebrate all that we have gone through during these challenging times.
Though we can not see each other in person, that doesn’t mean we cannot keep in touch through other media outlets. Feel free to write letters or give us a call!
