Tanglewood Manor Memory Care Household July Lookback
The month of July came and went, but our memory care residents look back on the month and cannot help but be thankful for all of the fun and exciting memories this month has blessed us with. July was a month of many celebrations, having holiday spirit and celebrating all the joys of National Days! In the month of July, a focus was also placed on overall health and well-being with the introduction of new forms of exercise and working on strengthening a positive mindset.
The month of July provided us with a plethora of opportunities to enjoy our recurring activities such as baking group, craft club, fitness group, and music group. Our baking group tried some new recipes such as patriotic cupcakes and monkey bread. Baking is a staple here in the Tanglewood Manor Memory Care Household, and our residents surely love being the taste testers of the wonderful creations. In addition, our craft club made some wonderful art pieces participating in a instructed painting class where they utilized pointillism to make beautiful canvas art, and even painting with water guns. As usual fitness group and music with Mary are two favorite activities that our residents participate in on a weekly basis. Patrick, our Wellness Center Director does a wonderful job working on strength training and balance, essential skills for this time in life. Mary Schmidt leads our music program and allows the residents to reminisce singing songs of their youth which brings a smile to everyone’s face.
In the first couple days of July, we celebrated Independence Day! Patriotic Jeopardy, decorating, baking, and of course singing were some of our favorite memories that we shared together. The holiday was topped with a 4th of July Picnic in which we ate delicious picnic food like hot dogs off the grill, potato salad, baked beans, and of course strawberry short cake. It was a wonderful celebration to say the least!
To keep the celebrations rolling, we also celebrated National Junk Food Day with a Junk Food Jubilee. We were so very fortunate to enjoy donuts from Farm Fresh Bakery right here in Jamestown, NY. The very next day the celebrations continued as we celebrated Christmas in July. Our household was decked out in Christmas frills and we enjoyed a nice pizza party with Christmas carols!
Our fun filled month of July ended on a high note as within the last week our residents participated in the Senior Olympic Games. Head to head our residents battled competing in events such as Olympic Corn Hole, Olympic Ladder Golf, Olympic Lawn Darts; and lastly, Olympic Bowling. Much fun was had and many laughs were shared in this innocent competition. To end Olympic week, our residents participated in a closing ceremony where they received participation awards for their great sportsmanship.
As we close the page on the month of July, we look forward to the month of August and all that the rest of this Summer has in store. We miss you all dearly, but know that when we are reconnected the meaning will be that much stronger. Don’t forget the other ways to reach us! We are a phone call or letter away.
